A MOUSE IN GRANNY’S HOUSE

B Cubed Press just released its newest book, Poetry for the Thoughtful Young.  I am pleased that the editors have chosen to include one of my poems in the collection.  “A Mouse in Granny’s House” is inspired by the Jewish folk tales of Chelm.  It’s a rhyme about silly people using silly solutions to solve a silly problem (excerpt follows):

The folks in Silly Town are helpful, indeed!
They’ll come to assist whoever’s in need!

“There’s a mouse in my house,” Granny said with a shout.
“Who in this town will get this mouse out?”

The baker came running, with his large tabby cat.
“She’ll catch that mouse. I’m sure about that!”
The cat meowed,
But the mouse stayed in the house.

The butcher came running, with his sad-looking hound.
“There’s no need to worry, that mouse will be found!”
The dog barked, and the cat meowed,
But the mouse stayed in the house.
